Identifying printmaking techniques in digitised artworks

We train the comparison models behind MetaSophia, a project of the SPAZIO GENESI ETS association.

What MetaSophia does

MetaSophia builds a system that identifies the printing technique used to produce a work of art from its digitised image, and writes that finding back as structured metadata on the image. The stated purpose is archival: it is aimed at cataloguing, archiving and restoration work across collections of hundreds of pieces, where the value is in the metadata of the whole set rather than in any single image.

What Radixia contributes

We contribute to the training of the comparison models, the part of the system that has to tell one printing technique from another. We do not run the project and we do not hold the collection.

Who runs it

The project is promoted by the association SPAZIO GENESI ETS, founded and managed by students of the Academy of Fine Arts in L'Aquila (ABAQ). It is their initiative; our involvement is technical.
